Leaving Whiskey Bend spirits you back to earlier days; when life was harsher, times were tougher and love, honour and family, was everything!”

Hallie Wolcott and Pearl Parsons take a terrified and abused, young woman named Mary, away from her malevolent step-brother. Hallie and Pearl leave Whiskey bend with a belief that they will find a peaceful and safe future, for all three of them.
Mary’s cruel step brother will stop at nothing to get his violent hands on ‘his’ woman and leaves a tearful and petrified Mary with a promise; he will follow her to the ends of the earth, to get her back and punish her for leaving! As they travel by wagon toward places unknown, a violent storm sends them into the life of Eli Morgan and his family.
Eli Morgan is haunted by his own personal demons and his life becomes imperilled when his brother’s past catches up with him. He does his best to protect those who have become dependent on him and diligently works the ranch. When Hallie, Pearl and Mary are safely ensconced on the Morgan Ranch, fate pays a call which can not go unanswered.
Will Mary’s horrible step brother get his vile hands on her again and take her back with him, to Whiskey Bend? Can Eli defend himself against an enemy unseen and still find love in the midst of it all?

Leaving Whiskey Bend is a richly woven story that I loved!
This is the first book that I’ve read, by Dorothy Garlock. Now I know what I’ve been missing! I was swept back to a time when you lived with courage and honour. If not, you were nothing and no one.
The characters were very authentic; each with their own distinct personalities and interesting temperaments. I thought they all were incredibly realistic for that time period and helped to anchor the story.
The writing style helped me visualize the past; a world full of frontier towns and family ranches that seemed to sprout up over night and expand just as quickly.
I was thoroughly entertained by this story! The pacing was very in-sync for the time in which the story was set. It was very easy to read and flowed smoothly.
I enthusiastically praise Dorothy Garlock’s writing abilities. I will be looking for many more of her books to read in the future.
I very highly recommend this book!
